Chen Style Practical Method Er Lu - Cannon Fist
Grandmaster Hong Junsheng had several principles of movement that should be kept in mind during form practise. The head should always be upright. When reaching out, the hand should always proceed the elbow and the elbow should always proceed the shoulder. When withdrawing, the shoulder should always precede the elbow and the elbow the hand The spine should always be straight, with the tail-bone slightly pointed backwards. The knees should be relaxed and bent at all times. The elbow should always be sunk. The body should always be straight. The weight of the body can only be adjusted by the bending of the knees. The hand normally does not go above the eyebrows or lower than the knees. The knees never bend beyond the toes. When one knee is down, the other one must be up, thus creating a cork-screw type of spiral of the body. The two hands can move along the same general directions, but they can never turn in the same directions. The eyes should be fixed on a fictitious opponent, even when practicing the solo form The head, body/torso and limbs can only turn at 45-degrees.
