Qi Gong

A great way to Get ready for Monday!

Come and join our new Qi Gong session Sunday afternoons, starting January 8th and running through to February 26th (8 week course).

Every Sunday from 3:30 - 5:00 PM,  cost for the entire session is $80. Location is University Canada West (gym) at 950 Kings Road. You can register by calling or emailing us - 250-592-4463 or victaijiacademy@gmail.com

Qi Gong is an ancient healing art that works a variety of systems throughout the body, including the entire qi meridian system.

This session will focus on 2 highly respected Qi Gong methods.

Re Shen Gong is a very beautiful and dynamic qi gong exercise set consisting of only 6 exercises and a group of health massage techniques. This set brings the practitioner into their Qi Gong body from two main perspectives; opening the major joints of the body while opening the associated meridians and organs, breath control that brings a strong awareness to the Taoist ideal of "Fire under Water" or breathing from the Dan Tien. Each exercise will be repeated until students are capable of performing the whole set by themselves.

Hunyuan Qi Gong is the second set that will be taught and consists of 12 movements, stationery standing with breath control and a set of self massage techniques. Hunyuan qi gong is a more complex set that gives students the possibility of progressing further with their health, strength and suppleness for years to come.

Hunyuan Qi Gong began with the first emperor of China and was passed down through his family for many generations. The last member of that family taught it to Hu Yao Zhen, a famous martial artist and qi gong master from Beijing. He taught the set to Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang who in turn taught it to my teacher. This set is reputed to extend a persons life and build robust health and strength.

What should I bring

Bring a cushion to sit on and layer your clothing as we will be alternating between being very active and sitting in meditation. We don't endorse the following company but this is a good example of the kind of pillow ideal for meditation - http://www.zafuzafu.com/

Why should I practise Qi Gong?

Qi gong is an ancient Chinese system of exercise and meditation that makes the mind and spirit tranquil, improves performance in sports, and cultivates health, well-being, and long life. Thus, there are three major kinds of qi gong: spiritual, sports, and healing. It is a spiritual discipline, inspired by ancient Chinese shamans, Taoists, and Buddhists, all of who sought harmony and peace in the solitude of nature.

Evidence demonstrates that qi gong may be an effect adjunct in the treatment of many illnesses including cancer and heart disease. Learn about the remarkable 12 benefits of qi gong, here:

1. Well-being and improved health. Qi gong emphasizes the whole body, whole system health. While it is true that qi gong will often cure specific ills, this is not the primary reason for practice. It is not only a matter of adding years to your life, but life to your years.

2. Clear and tranquil mind. When the mind is at peace, the whole universe seems at peace. World peace begins with you; it is your responsibility to find a peaceful heart and mind. Then you can heal and transform others just through your presence. If you have a tranquil mind, you will make better decisions and have the skill to know when act and when to be still.

3. Deeper, more restorative sleep. Qi gong will help you find the deep relaxation and mental quiet necessary for sleep.

4. Increased energy, including sexual vitality and fertility. Qi gong people have more energy; it can reverse energy and restore youthfulness.

5. Comfortable warmth. Qi gong is great for cold hands and feet. Circulation improves, and the body generates more internal warmth when it is cold.

6. Clear skin. The skin, like the intestines, is an organ of elimination. According to Chinese medicine, as your qi gong improves, your body eliminates toxins, and the skin becomes clear.

7. Happy attitude. There is an old Tibetan saying, “You can tell a Yogi by his or her laugh.” Correct and moderate qi gong practice usually creates an optimistic and joyous disposition.

8. More efficient metabolism. Digestion improves, and hair and nails grow more quickly.

9. Greater physiological control. This means that aspects of the body that were imbalanced or out of control begin to normalize, for example, breathing rate, heart rate, blood pressure, hormone levels, and states of chronic inflammation or depletion.

10. Bright eyes. The qi gong master’s eyes are said to glow in the dark, like a cat’s. The eyes also appear bright because the spirit and soul are luminous and the heart is open.

11. Intuition and creativity. Intuition and creativity generate each other and come from the same source, an awakened brain and being, an ability to think with the gut, to feel with the mind.

12. Spiritual effects. Advancement in qi gong is often accompanied by a variety of spiritual experiences. For example, synchronicity, meaningful coincidences, become more common. When the qi is abundant, clear, and flowing, the senses perceive and are permeated by a sweetness.
