World Tai Chi and Qi Gong Day celebrated in Victoria.

An unprecedented Global Health and Healing Event which will unfold across the planet on Saturday, April 28th, 2007, 10 AM worldwide

 

On April 27th Victoria Mayor, Alan Lowe, will sign a proclamation stating that the city of Victoria recognizes and values the twin arts of Tai Chi and Qi Gong and publicly recognizes World Tai Chi and Qi Gong Day.

 This recognition includes Canada and Victoria in a list of over 60 countries worldwide to celebrate the event. This year there will be celebrations in such diverse locations as the United Nations building in New York and the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, Norway. Beginning in New Zealand this event will spread time zone by time zone across the globe through over 60 countries across 6 continents. This healing wave will be a spectacular visual site, but also will promote calm and wellness worldwide.

 All schools of tai chi and encouraged to come out and participate in this event.

 Mass Tai Chi and Qi Gong (chi kung) exhibitions will be held in public places to educate the world about the benefits of the Traditional-Chinese-Medicine exercise of Qi Gong and Tai Chi.

 Here in Victoria the Victoria Chen Taiji Academy and its students will be celebrating the event by holding a public demonstration and workshop on Saturday April 28th from 10:00 – 11:30 AM on the east lawn of the legislative buildings.

 Students will be demonstrating and encouraging participation in two styles of Qi Gong, Eight Section Brocade and Hunyuan Qi Gong. They will then demonstrate and encourage participation in two styles of Tai Chi, Chen and Yang. There will be warm-ups and simple exercises suitable for participants of all fitness levels.

 World Tai Chi and Qi Gong Day was started as a way of bringing attention to the value of Tai Chi and Qi Gong in helping to keep people fit and moving well into old age.

 Tai Chi and Qi gong are health technologies evolved over several thousand years of research in China and now growing in popularity worldwide. They are used in hospitals, business, prisons, schools and other institutions. Tai Chi and Qi Gong have been shown in research to reduce anxiety, depression, chronic pain conditions. They boost the immune system, improve respiratory function, burn calories, dramatically improve balance, provide cardiovascular benefit, provide powerful stress management tools and slow aspects of the aging process.
