Victoria Chen Taiji Academy has been teaching in Victoria since 1996. We primarily teach Chen style taiji but also teach Yang taiji and Qi Gong.

Our summer location is in Beacon Hill Park at the far south end of the general purpose field near the intersection of Dallas and Douglas.

Chen Style Taijiquan

In 1996 head instructor, Gordon Muir, was introduced to Chen style taiji with Master Zhang Xue Xin. From him Gordon learned silk reeling,  the Chen 48 form and push hands. In 2001 Gordon met his current teacher, Master Chen Zhonghua who is the International Standard Bearer for Chen Style Practical Method.

In Chen style we teach the following:

Silk Reeling - also called circles or jibengong.

Yi Lu - this is the first form learned in Chen taiji. We teach the first section of this form along with advanced silk reeling every Monday and Wednesday in the second class, from 7:30 - 8:30 PM.

Push hands - we have two classes per week for push hands. Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. There is a prerequisite of satisfactory performance in the beginning classes before students are allowed into this class.

Chen straight sword - taught on Tuesday evenings. Also has a prerequisite.

Yang Style Taijiquan

Gordon Muir also studied Yang style tai chi with Yang style Master, T. T. Liang. Gordon was a student of Liangs for more than 14 years and learned the complete Yang curriculum.

At our school we teach the full Yang style tai chi curriculum including long form, two person applications, push hands, weapons and weapon fencing sets.

We teach a Yang style beginners class on Monday evenings at 5:30 PM. There is an intermediate class on Wednesdays at 5:30PM. During these classes we often practise push hands or posture applications.
